Basic tapestry weaving class with Lisa Almeida

Tapestry Weaving Basics

In this class students learn the basics of contemporary tapestry weaving and how to create imagery with fiber using a simple tapestry loom.

In the one-day version, students get to whet their appetite for the art of tapestry and weave a tiny tapestry from start to finish. The multi-day version allows for deeper explorations and introduces some intermediate concepts as well.

Beyond Basic Tapestry Weaving:

A series of intermediate and advanced techniques

Beyond Basic Tapestry Weaving picks up where Tapestry Weaving Basics leaves of.

This series is comprised of a number of intermediate and advanced technique classes. Examples of topics that can be covered include finishing, mounting and displaying completed tapestries, and understanding and experimenting with shaped and sculptural tapestry using pulled warp techniques.

Community Weaving

Part of my tapestry mission is to introduce others to this art form. One of the ways I do that is by offering hands-on opportunities for people of all ages to weave in community.

There are 2 ways I do this.

  1. I bring a large loom (such as the one pictured here) to your location to demonstrate the process and invite others to weave along.
  2. I supply participants with 4″ micro looms that they weave a portion of a larger design onto. Then I connect the looms to reveal a unified image.

Let’s start a discussion about bringing a community weaving experience to your school or event.

This community loom was built specifically for use at the Annual League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair. All are welcome to weave while visiting the Fair, which always begins the first weekend of August and runs through the following Sunday at Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH.
